Back

Barrettine Garden Furniture Oil is a natural blend of clear oils and resins for the treatment of all types of garden furniture. It penetrates deep into unsealed wood leaving a natural, water resistant finish ideal for outdoor garden furniture. Regular application will nourish, protect and revitalise the appearance of weathered wood.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wooden surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, debris and other surface contaminates.

New bare wood

  • If required, new bare timber can be cleaned and degreased with White Spirit prior to application
  • For the best protection, treat wood first with a suitable wood preserver

Previously treated wood

  • Any surface coatings such as paints, varnishes and varnish like stains must be fully removed back to clean, bare wood by sanding or using a product stripper / remover
  • Garden furniture that was oiled over a year ago should be tested to see if the oil can penetrate in to the wood after lightly sanding and cleaning with white spirit

Old untreated wood

  • Wood that has become decayed should be removed and replaced
  • Brush down wooden garden furniture with a stiff brush to remove any ingrained surface dirt and debris
  • Traces of mould, algae or fungi must be removed with a stiff brush or scraper
  • Any woodworm can be treated with Barrettine Premier Woodworm Killer Spray
  • Areas that have been affected by mould, algae or fungi should be treated with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Spray prior to application
  • Use an appropriate wood filler if repairs are required before oiling

Application

Application

Does this contain UV filters?

No, this product does not contain any UV filters, it will allow the wood to grey naturally.

When is best time to protect garden furniture, before covering over winter or in spring?

The best time to apply garden furniture oil is before covering it for winter. Oiling in autumn provides a protective barrier against moisture, mould, and cold weather, helping to keep the wood from drying, cracking, or rotting over the winter months. This will ensure it is well-protected while stored.

Nice and easy
The outdoor furniture oil was easy to apply and gave very good results. The worst part is the sanding down beforehand.

Went on beautifully, has given old furniture a new lease of life
I decided to give our table and chairs a thorough clean and oiling and they have come up looking fantastic. So then tried with some rescued chairs which drank in the oil and look years younger.

Brilliant!
They say you get what you pay for and with this teak oil it’s true. Previously I have used a cheap one which stayed sticky for years, much to my disgust. So when we bought a new bench and I decided not to penny pinch. I am very impressed. The product is easy to use, makes the wood look terrific, has dried off beautifully and I am very proud of how our new bench looks. Thank you!

Dries a lot darker
It works, but dries much darker than the photography suggests on the can and online. It appeared to be a perfect match for what I wanted, just made all the furniture dark teak.
