Barrettine Mould & Mildew Cleaner is a ready to use surface biocide for the control of organic growths. It is perfect for use as a pre-treatment for wood that has developed mould, algae or fungi, prior to the application of a wood oil or other wood finish. It also contains cleaning ingredients to remove light surface dirt from plastic, wood and other substrates, but does not contain bleach. Perfect for use on masonry, timber, plastic and more.

Before applying Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner, remove as much surface dirt, debris and organic growth as possible with a scraper, stiff brush or broom. For maximum biological effectiveness, it is recommended that this product is applied to dry surfaces.

Always do a small test area before starting any project to confirm performance and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
Barrettine Mould & Mildew Cleaner can be applied with a natural bristle brush. It can also be applied with a trigger spray bottle such as a re-used kitchen spray bottle. Any recycled bottle should be thoroughly cleaned before use. Apply at a rate of 5 to 10 meters square per litre, depending on how porous the surface to be treated is. Only use when the surface and ambient air temperature is above 5°C.
- Apply using your chosen method
- Scrub the treated areas and leave to dry for 20 minutes (or to maximise biocidal effect, leave for 24 hours to dry before washing off)
- When dry, rinse off all substance
- Repeat if necessary (although a second application is not normally required)
- The wood is now ready for finishing

Once the wood has been treated and cleaned with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner, it is ready to be treated with a wood preserver to protect against future infestations and then finished with an appropriate wood oil, paint or wood stain.

Very good
I was a little optimistic about using this but I was amazed how it cleaned the wood. Dirt oozed out from the timber. Without this the application of Barretine Wood Protective Treatment would not have been as successful. Failure to prepare is preparation to fail as the saying goes.

Does the job
Used to treat green algae on fence panels prior to treating with preserver. It cleans the wood and the preserver goes on easily enough afterwards. Easy to apply.

Effective and easy to use straight from the bottle
I purchased this product to remove green algae from my wooden fence before repainting. It was easy to apply with a paintbrush. Within 24 hours it had removed all but the most persistent algae, which disappeared after a second application. So, it works quickly and effectively. I can highly recommend it.

Didn’t work
I bought this for the Log Cabin which has become very discoloured. We haven’t treated it for a couple of years and it had developed a grey look. Did 2 coats which made no difference apart from cleaning away the spider grime etc. I have now ordered the barre tone wood reviver which is supposed to get rid of the grey look.

Great Product
This is one of the few products which actually works for us. Used it on our decking and fencing and it removed all the green algae effectively and quickly. We put it on and just left it to do its work. Would definitely buy again
