Overview

Overview

Back

Barrettine Danish Oil is made from a blend of rich oils, including Tung Oil. Suitable for a wide range of applications including wooden doors, panelling, furniture, wooden decorations and wood turning projects. Very high water repellency, giving the wood a low lustre, natural finish.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure wood to be oiled is clean, smooth, dry and free from wax, dust and any other surface contaminants.

New or Bare Timber

  1. Bare wood may be stained or dyed with either a water-based or solvent-based wood stain or dye before finishing with Barrettine Danish Oil
  2. Do not apply a knotting agent or sanding sealer
  3. Remove any mould or algae with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner
  4. Any existing instances of woodworm can be treated with Barrettine Premier Woodworm Killer
  5. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood with a suitable wood filler

Previously Coated Timber

  1. Ensure that all previous paints and varnishes are removed by sanding back to bare wood or using a suitable paint and varnish remover
  2. Previously waxed surfaces should by thoroughly scrubbed with white spirit
  3. Wipe away the dissolved wax or polish with a clean lint-free cloth
  4. Wipe surface with water to test that all of the wax has been removed
  5. Repeat the process if the water continues to bead on the surface of the wood

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area to confirm performance and compatibility before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Barrettine Danish Oil should be applied at a room temperature of between 15°C - 25°C Do not apply below 5°C. Stir / shake well before use.

  1. Apply the Danish Oil liberally with a clean, lint-free cloth or natural bristle brush, and wipe off any surplus oil after a few minutes
  2. For a superior smooth danish oil finish, the final coat may be applied using a plastic scouring pad, rubbing in the direction of the grain and wiping away any surplus with a soft, lint-free cloth
  3. For a smooth, silky finish, lightly sand the danish oil between coats with very fine sandpaper or wire wool
  4. Re-coat once the previous coat is dry, approximately 6 hours in normal drying conditions
  5. New or bare wood should be oiled 3 times initially
  6. Exterior wood requires a minimum of 3 coats applied liberally and not wiped off
  7. To improve the penetration and durability dilute the first coat with up to 20% white spirit

Please Note: If applying Danish Oil to veneered doors, it is advisable to check with the door manufacturer before proceeding.

Regular Cleaning

For regular cleaning, use a slightly dampened, lint-free cloth and simply wipe over gently.

Repair

Wooden surfaces can be periodically re-oiled if the surface becomes tired looking, dry or scuffed. Wipe surfaces with a lint-free cloth or rag slightly dampened with white spirit before finishing wood with Barrettine Danish Oil.

Please Note: Oiled surfaces should never be cleaned with household detergents and cleaners as these can degrade or eventually strip the oil from the wood. Always use a specifically formulated wood cleaner.

Excellent quality oil
After trauling the internet for large quantity of Danish oil I found this product at Wood Finishes Direct and I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else. It's not a brand I'm familiar with but certainly met my expectations. I will be using Wood Finishes Direct from now on for all oils I need for my interior and exterior projects and furniture restoration.

Easy to use
Roofers left me some scaffold boards after roof replacement. I wanted to use them to prevent icicles piercing the plastic roof of my conservatory, thus they needed protection. My search engine came up with your Danish oil product. This was very easy to apply in the hot weather. The non-natural brushes were easy to clean with White Spirit. Spilt water runs off the boards. Good.

Great stuff
I used to use Rustins Danish Oil, but it has become quite expensive. Barrettine Danish Oil is comparable in quality and provides an excellent finish. I highly recommend this product. Additionally, it was delivered quickly and arrived undamaged. Overall, I had a great experience with their service.
