The silicon carbide sandpaper is on special offer at present.
Good quality sandpapers are essential when working towards a silky smooth finish on wood, fibreglass, metal and plastics. With a choice of coatings and grits, there is a sand-paper to suit almost every task. From the coarse sanding of oversized doors and timber to achieving a glass like finish on fine furniture and floorings, our aluminium oxide and silicon carbide sandpapers will help to achieve the desired end result.
Aluminium Oxide Sandpaper - used for wooden flooring, furniture & surfaces. Aluminium Oxide sandpaper is one of the more commonly used sandpapers for general wood working and DIY. When used, the heat and pressure from friction causes the sandpapers aluminium oxide particles to fragment, this creates new cutting edges on the paper surface effectively prolonging the life and usability of the sand-paper, this process continues until the particles are unable to break down any further.
Silicon Carbide sandpaper - for harder surfaces such as metal, plastics & fiberglass. Silicon Carbide sandpaper is harder than aluminium oxide papers making it more suitable for use on harder materials like fibreglass, plastics and metal. Silicon carbide sand-papers also create new cutting edges when used on hard surfaces, materials such as wood however are not hard enough to cause the particles to fracture and fragment. Because of this, silicon carbide sandpapers tend to wear out faster than the aluminium oxide sanding papers when used on softer surfaces.
Sand-paper Grits People often refer to the grit of a sandpaper, this is a reference to how abrasive or coarse a sandpaper is. Sandpapers with a lower grit have larger particles which inevitably give a coarse finish to wooden surfaces, sandpapers with a finer grit have more particles per square inch which will produce a finer finish. In basic terms, the higher the grit count, the finer the particles and the smoother the finish, for the best results on say a table top, the wooden surface should be sanded a number of times with an ever increasing grit to achieve a smoother surface.
With sandpaper brands such as Mirka & SIA, you can be sure of quality results every time on furniture, hardwood flooring and other wood or non-wood surfaces and projects.
