Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints offers an extremely hard-wearing, oil-based wood stain finish that dries to a soft satin sheen. Perfect for most interior wooden surface including floors, doors, skirting-boards, furniture and more. Child and food safe when dry, this product is ideal for wooden chopping boards, utensils and children's toys.
Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil and pigments inside are thoroughly mixed.
Ensure that wooden surfaces, especially floors have been sanded and prepared with care. Poor preparation and / or sanding technique may result in a poor finish. Surfaces must be clean and dry, removing all traces of dust and dirt before application (maximum moisture content 20%). Only apply on frost free surface. For guaranteed performance it is always recommended to remove all traces of a previous finish.
Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility.
Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints is ready-to-use from the tin, do not thin. Stir thoroughly prior and periodically during application. Fiddes hard wax oils dry via oxidation so it is important to ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush, however the key to a great finish is thin application with removal of any surplus with a clean, lint free cloth.
Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over several weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure:
Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints can be intermixed to produce unique colours. For a more translucent finish add clear Hard Wax Oil. Here are some tips for achieving different effects:
Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this degrades the performance of the finish.
For daily maintenance a duster, mop or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient. An electric floor polisher is very useful.
For persistent stains, remove with Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner. This will also revive the appearance of the surface.
Renovating, even partially, is easy. Just clean and re-treat worn areas with a thin coat of the oil used - no sanding, no repair marks, no removal of the previous oil finish. No repair marks will be visible if applied thinly and appropriately.
Easy to apply and gave a great finish
Lightened the train really nicely without being too opaque, exactly what we wanted
Started off with a battered orangey old floor, but after a bit of elbow grease removing remains of old wax, I used this wax oil and am absolutely delighted! Looks superb. Easy to use dries quickly, couldn't be happier.
Good adherence, versatile application and consistent quality
We're renovating our 130 year old stone house. I am sanding each room as we go with my trusty random orbital sander - I don't want a factory perfect finish, I want to see a bit of history on those boards. The wood is pine; using Fiddes natural coloured hard wax oil on them set the latent orange tones on fire. It was a shock. So now I'm using the Onyx black - the result is an ashy dark brown with a few gold highlights. It looks brilliant. Fiddes Hardwax Oil is so easy to apply - I brush on to work it into the grain and the floorboard gaps then wipe it off. And it goes such a long way so is really economical. It will always be my floor finish of choice.
We've used lots of different oils from the Fiddes range and they are all great
Great coverage with one coat and colours as it says on the tin!
Very hard wearing, high quality product. I used this to restore Douglas Fir floor boards, in a property that dates from 1745. Delighted with the results and would definitely recommend.
Great paint so nice to put on leaves a nice finish
Dried quickly to leave a superb finish. Definitely use this again.
I love Fiddes products. As expected, this was easy to use and apply, and dried reasonably quickly.
Used this to refinish an old oak wardrobe as the polyurethane varnish was peeling off. Never liked the plastic-y feel of the varnish so after some research this seemed like the right product, and I'm incredibly happy. Very pleasing to the touch and when applied with a non-abrasive white Scotch-Brite pad instead of a brush it's astoundingly economical. With 2 coats I ended up using a tiny fraction of the 1l tin. Eager to spruce up more furniture with it!
Product brilliant when used with Purdy synthetic brushes.
Just a small amount of this wax is needed to impart a beautiful, antique wood hue and character. It is, however, quite difficult to apply evenly; the first coat has turned out a bit patchy - a second coat is definitely required.
Not a tint - really opaque white on second application and looked uneven- didn't look good.
Thank you for the feedback on the Sample sachet. With these sachets it is important to manipulate the sachet in your hands for a few minute to ensure the pigment is evenly dispersed through the oil, particularly with whites.
It is worth taking some time to try various test areas for a white finish as they can often be difficult to get right, when you do however they can look stunning and we do have a very helpful Blog on white finishes. http://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/blog/beautiful-interior-white-wood-finishes-for-dreamy-interiors/

Goes on very easily with minimal fuss. Provides a great finish every time. Would happily use again any time
Excellent product that looks great It's hard wearing and really forms a protective layer over the wood
was not quite sure how to apply this product. Looked how to apply this product on youtube which was a great help, The fiddes hard wax oil needed two coats which has given my doors a fantastic finish they have made some cheap pine doors look like expensive ones so pleased with the results, I had been looking for a product for a long time for my doors did not know wood finishes direct was out there until I went to the Kent county show so glad we found them.
I use this a a wooden floor oil, always covers well and is hard wearing.
I found it difficult to use. It came out darker on a larger area than the sample did.
Hello Mr Bayliss,
Feedback on the darker tones have indicated that very good stirring is required and ongoing stirring through out the application process will help to give a more even finish.
These darker tones have also been known to highlight differences in the wood it is applied to, so if the wood is not evenly sanded this can show up or if you have floorboards that are made from different wood or are a different age they can have a slightly different finish. This is due to how readily the wood will absorb the oil and in turn the pigments.

Kind regards Samantha.
