Manns Premier UV Decking Oil can be used on all pre-treated, pressure treated and preservative impregnated decking timbers, and is also suitable for use on wooden sheds, fences and pergolas.

Ensure decked areas to be oiled are clean, dry and free from surface dirt and debris.

New Decking Preparation

For all bare wood decking including tantalised, pressure treated and preservative impregnated decking timbers.

New Softwood Decking

  1. First treat decking with a suitable exterior wood preservative for the best protection
  2. If possible, preserve all sides including end grain prior to installation
  3. Sweep the decking with a stiff broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and debris
  4. Use a suitable garden decking cleaner if required before oiling

New Hardwood Decking

Hardwood decking usually requires a period of weathering to allow the surface grain to open up. This allows for better absorption of the decking oil. Check the decking manufacturer's guidance on how long decking should be left to weather before treating.

Old Decking Preparation

Manns UV Decking Oil cannot be used over timber that has been painted with conventional paints, varnished or lacquered. Any old surface coatings must be fully removed to expose bare wood before the wood can be oiled.

  1. Ensure that all 'coating' type finishes have been fully removed by either jet washing or using a dedicated decking stripper
  2. Old oil finishes should be cleaned thoroughly with a suitable decking cleaner
  3. For decking and other surfaces that are or have been affected by mould, algae or black patches, treat the wood with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner prior to applying decking oil
  4. For the best protection, also consider Barrettine Premier Wood Preservative to help protect against mould, algae, dry rot, woodworm and wood related diseases
  5. If possible, preserve all sides including end grain prior to installation
  6. Wood preservative should be allowed to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before applying Manns UV Decking Oil
  7. Sweep the decking with a stiff broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and debris before oiling

Always do a small test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir well before and during application.

  1. Apply an even coat of Manns UV Decking Oil to all surfaces to ensure optimum performance
  2. For the best results, apply to all sides of decking and other timber including sawn ends
  3. Allow up to 12 hours drying time between coats

To restore decked areas that have become worn or dry looking, an additional coat of Manns Premier UV Decking Oil may be applied, following the Application instructions above.

Covers great and protects from water by Mr Nikki Lynch

Application was easy and covered well. This is a nice golden oak colour, and brightens up the garden. Water now runs off with ease.

The Mans (UV decking oil) is great stuff by Marcus Rex

The product itself (UV decking oil) is great, we really like how it keeps the wood looking its natural colour. We use the clear version and it definitely lasts well and protects the wood from harmful UV and stops it bleaching out. My only complaint is they have swapped from a square container that was easy to pour from to a round paint can, which is not easy to pour from. We use spray system to apply the product as there is such a large area to do, trying to pour from a round tin is messy to say the least. Also round tins take up more space than square ones when packed in boxes, meaning bigger boxes and more waste packing! Over all though this is a really good product, I'd say its the best wood treatment I've ever used, it is better than well known brands in terms of use of use, coverage, protection afforded and longevity. I also found Wood Finishes Direct to be extremely helpful and give great customer service.

The best of British by Neil Bate

Used many stains and oils over the years. Thought I would try Manns Decking Oil as it was a reasonable price and it was made in the UK. So this oil gives off a rich finish and just I instinctively perceive it as better look, feel, application. Since then I have re-purchased this oil and have now done all the decking throughout. Really happy with the look and feel of the wood once its gone off. Happy to recommend.

Easy to apply and leaves a great finish by Pomroy

3 days after the second coat was applied, and dried, it rained. We could immediately see how good the product is by the rain droplets on top of the wood finish. We used this product on new pressure treated large gates and a side gate (not on decking) and the result is as we had hoped for.

Great product easy to apply long lasting by Graham Alexander

I have used this product many times , the clear stays clear and does not yellow the timber unlike other products. Plus if you have a need you can mix with stained versions to achieve your own colour especially as they don't make a medium oak...

Quality good, colour not by Louise Davis

The quality of this product seems good, however the colour is very reddish rather than dark oak. I bought this instead of Ronseal which I have used previously, but didn't seem to have much staying power, but the Ronseal colour is a much better and darker brown.

Excellent oil by Andrew White

Excellent oil. Good price and very easy to apply. This purchase was for another 10 litres to use in subsequent years. I originally used this on new decking which is now a year old and it still looks good after several jet wash cleans.

Great product not only for decking by Graham Alexander

I made 11 very large planters for the entrance to a new pub / kitchen in London, Having treated the new timbers I used 10 litres on 1300 board feet covering well with 2 coats despite the cold damp weather dried with in 24hrs between coats. you can either brush on or use a simple garden sprayed to cover large areas with out problems. A great product !

Adequate by Jonny Stableford

Clear product which on some timbers does not show up. I used it on a project towards the end if summer and has discoloured quite quickly.
