Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints offers an extremely hard wearing, oil based wood stain finish, that dries to a soft satin sheen. Perfect for most interior wooden surface including floors, doors, skirting-boards, furniture and more. Child and food safe when dry, this product is ideal for wooden chopping boards, utensils and children's toys.
Ensure that wooden surfaces, especially floors have been sanded and prepared with care. Poor preparation and / or sanding technique may result in a poor finish. Surfaces must be clean and dry, removing all traces of dust and dirt before application (maximum moisture content 20%). Only apply on frost free surface. For guaranteed performance it is always recommended to remove all traces of a previous finish.
Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility.
Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints is ready-to-use from the tin, do not thin. Stir thoroughly prior and periodically during application. Fiddes hard wax oils dry via oxidation so it is important to ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush, however the key to a great finish is thin application with removal of any surplus with a clean, lint free cloth.
Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over several weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure:
Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints can be intermixed to produce unique colours. For a more translucent finish add clear Hard Wax Oil. Here are some tips for achieving different effects:
Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this degrades the performance of the finish.
For daily maintenance a duster, mop or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient. An electric floor polisher is very useful.
For persistent stains, remove with Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner. This will also revive the appearance of the surface.
Renovating, even partially, is easy. Just clean and re-treat worn areas with a thin coat of the oil used - no sanding, no repair marks, no removal of the previous oil finish. No repair marks will be visible if applied thinly and appropriately.
Excellent to work with
I needed to darken a solid oak backing board to mount a mediaeval oak carving for display. The range of wax colours available meant that I could choose an ideal shade to show the carving to best effect. Delivery was fast and efficient. I closely followed the application instructions on the tin and this resulted in a perfect finish. I can unhesitatingly recommend this supplier and product.
This sample, just like Osmo samples, is a small thin sachet, rather like a packet of seeds in size, and provides just enough to stain a one foot piece of wood. Itís very easy to apply and dries to a nice even finish. This was not the brand or colour I used in the end, but was impressed none the less.
For my floorboards I wanted a mid-range colour but the Antique tint is too dark - solution = 1st coat with clear wax, 2nd with the tinted one then (to proect against long term wear, 3rd coat clear. Job done!
Great colour , easy to use
Really love the warm colour of this stain.
Literally did what it says on the tin! Has totally transformed our floor, easy to use, great quality
Good quality product with great service with this company.
easy to use and great hard lush finish ( 3 coats)
easy to use and great hard lush finish ( 3 coats)
Product is easy to apply, brush on and wipe of excess, gives a much more even finish than the stains on more intricate items where overlap can be a problem.
Used this on a couple of projects, good product to work with, gives a very soft satin sheen, not quite matte. Lays off well without leaving brush marks (using a high quality soft bristle synthetic brush). Only potential issue is it is very thin so care must be taken to avoid runs.
Never having used a product like this I was not sure of results I present have worried as the result was excellent, not sure how durable it will be but time will tell .product was very easy .to use.
I ordered four other samples to test out the colours before undertaking a very large pine clad roof in an attic conversion. I was more than surprised at the tea spoonful of product you get in a tiny sachet as a tester. The sachets are very messy to work with and you can only cover a few inches, and for what they are, they're very expensive!
Very easy to apply giving a wonderful finish. I used three coats on stripped doors and the satiny ,seemless finish is superb. Will definately order again for the rest of my doors.
I purchased the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil to apply to a wooden mantelpiece, after trying samples of various wood stains and wax oils; I wanted good depth of colour and finish, with a slight sheen, and that is exactly what I got with this product. It's fairly easy to use, but it is worth taking extra care with preparation of the wood surface. The walnut wax oil when applied from the tin seems to give a slightly redder colour than the test sample, which I probably spread too thinly, but the final result works very well with my colour scheme and I am very pleased with it. I would certainly consider using the Hard Wax Oil instead of wood stain with acrylic or polyurethane varnish in future.
Precisely what was needed!
