Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural is designed to better retain the natural appearance of untreated wood whilst offering a high degree of protection. Suitable for use on most interior wooden surfaces including wooden floors, doors, kitchen worktops, cupboards, skirting boards, spindles and furniture.
Please note: Fiddes also market and label this product as "Oak Lightening".
This product is better suited to lighter coloured timbers such as Pine, Oak, Beech etc. If used on dark exotic hardwoods such as Teak, Mahogany, Iroko or Ipe it could leave a milky, slightly white appearance to the timber.
Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil, wax and resins inside are thoroughly mixed.
Ensure surfaces to be treated are clean and dry prior to application.
The video below demonstrates the application of the standard clear Hard Wax Oil. Although the application process will be the same for the 'Natural' version, the end result shown in this video shows the darker, slightly damp appearance of the standard clear oil.
Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Please Note: Over application will result in a 'white wash' finish and in the worst cases white swirls, brush marks and a sticky or tacky surface.
For day to day cleaning, surfaces treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural can be dry wiped, swept or vacuumed.
To clean surface scuffs, marks and stains, use Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner and a damp (not wet) microfibre cloth or mop.
Note: Although Fiddes Cleaner is named 'Floor Surface Cleaner' it can be used on any surface treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil including floors, furniture, table tops and kitchen worktops.
To repair, simply recoat cleaned wood surfaces with a thin layer of Hard Wax Oil.
Great product with a good firm behind it.
Great product good coverage and a little goes a long way
I bought this to protect a reclaimed oak parquet floor and the finish i exactly what i wanted. Brought the grain out lovely and give it a warm tinge. Also coated oak door frames, skirting boards and doors as i was so happy with the finish. At least 2 coats recommended and apply thinly.
Very easy to apply and gives a natural finish. Instructions were followed and there was no 'milkiness' at all. I will be using this product again and will be recommending to family and friends.
This is an excellent product. Used it to finish new oak handrail. It gives a very natural looking finish without changing the colour of the wood and seems hard wearing. I would certainly use it again.
Tested this 5ml sample on a small piece of bare oak bannister rail. It gave a lovely finish. Just what I was looking for. I intend to use it to finish new banister rail.
Love this stuff. So easy to apply and looks great when finished.
I find all the Fiddes & Sons products the best on the market.
Goes on very easily and goes further than tin says, lots left. Does slightly darken wood but looks ok.
The satchet allowed me to choose the correct oil for the shade of wood to be covered
I recently built an oak framed sun room extension using 7 x 7 green oak posts, 7 x 6 plates and 10 x 4 cill, which was direct glazed with kiln dried oak facing. I needed a finish for the internal oak that would keep the natural appearance, have little to no sheen and also to bring out the grain. Fiddes hard wax oil was recommended to me by the sawmill and I have no regrets in using it. The coverage is excellent and I only used one small 250 ml for one coat. That was several weeks ago and I now intend to make a second purchase for the final coat.
I like this product a lot. Works well and has a lovely finish.
Reasonably prices product and leaves a natural finish. Very pleased with this product.
Was applied to freshly sanded pine floor boards, brought out the wood grain while not overly colouring the wood. The grain and knots assumed a brown woody tint giving way to a clear surrounding wood. Initial, stirring did not mix effectively and led to unsatisfactory coloration. We used our mechanical paint mixer (drill attachment) and the result was much improved. The natural tint has a white ingredient which counters the coloration of the oil/wax, this tends to sit at the bottom of the tin, so very good mixing is needed. Also, as instructed, a wipe down is compulsory during application for a good finish.
I put this on top of a light coat of Manns white stain. It was easy to apply and didn't change the colour at all. I'm very happy with the result.
Lovely, natural finish to stripped floorboards - will be using for whole floor.
I have this old, very large piece of oak furniture which needed attention. I did not wish it to get any darker with treatment but was worried about the damage it has sustained over the years and how best to treat it. The staff at wood finishes were terrific and recommended this product. It was magic! It looks terrific now! I couldn't be happier.
We purchased this again to give our floors a recoat of oil. Looks great and protects floors even against animals and teenagers
Though not quite as good at not changing the colour as the fiddes clear wax it is much more hard wearing. I found on light woods that a light wash of a dilute white dye then applying this over the top made for a very natural result.
I read the excellent review of floor finishes on your website and choose this as the best product for my old pine floors. I'm very pleased with the result, though I'm not entirely convinced that the product damps down the brightness of colour as it promises to do. Definitely recommend.
