Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver is suitable for the treatment of most exterior wooden surfaces including structural greenhouse timbers and timbers in close proximity with plants (not seed boxes). Extra thorough drying must be allowed under service conditions before introducing plants.

For interior timber, consider Cuprinol 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment (WB).

Looking for a clear exterior wood preservative? Consider Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear (BP).

Ensure that all wooden surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, debris and other surface contaminates.

  • Clean surfaces to be treated with a stiff brush or broom to remove ingrained surface dirt, debris and biological growth such as mould, algae and moss
  • Areas affected by mould, algae or fungi should first be treated with a fungicidal wash or mould and mildew cleaner
  • Surface coating such as paints and varnishes must be removed fully by sanding or stripping, back to clean bare wood

Always do a test area before starting any project to test appearance and suitability of the product on the timber to be treated. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Please Note: Cuprinol Wood Preserver is not suitable for use on Beehives and other Bee keeping equipment. Timber treated with this product will not be suitable for paint, varnish or wood stain finishes. The colour of treated wood may be affected by type and condition of wood and may be modified by previous treatments.

  1. Shake or stir thoroughly before and frequently during use to ensure an even colour
  2. Cuprinol garden wood preserver should be applied by brush only, not suitable for spraying
  3. After suitable preparation apply 2-3 coats of Cuprinol Wood Preservative

For best coverage and protection, three coats are recommended.

Repair

To maintain the surface finish and its protective properties, re-apply a fresh coat of Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver as and when required, following the preparation and application instructions.

A superior lasting product when compared with others by Mr A White

In an exposed coastal area I've tried numerous other products on a selection of different types of wooden sheds. Cuprinol has proved to be the best product I have found to protect and waterproof the exterior of the sheds.

Wouldn't be without this for all my out door furniture, year in, year out by Mark Wilkins

I was recommended this product from my local building company when they were building a wooden garage, next to my stable block. The application is so easy, stir and apply with brush or roller onto new treated wood, and it goes on like water. Fantastic, fast coverage and weather dependant, dries quickly ready for the next coat. 5 litres goes along way, and I now use it for all my various benches, garden tables and chairs. It darkens on the second coat, and you can see its water resistance when raining.Incredible product, and pound for pound, fantastic value. Quite simply if it was ever discontinued, I'd be lost.

So far, so good In fact excellent! by Robert Justham

Having previously used the solvent-based Cuprinol Wood Preservative on Siberian Larch cladding when the time (eight years) came to re-treat the boards I was concerned to learn that the product had been replaced with a water-based preservative. However, having now carefully prepared the surface and applied three coats of the new treatment, I am very impressed with the results. We shall be interested to see how it withstands weather over the next eight years!

Excellent product by Oliver Belson

Good coverage water based preservative - the chestnut comes up pretty dark - darker than you might think and if painted on liberally can be almost black. Looks great, easy to clean - you must keep it stirred though. You can spray paint with it despite what it says on the tin...

Always had 1st class results with Cuprinol products by Paul

I have never had a bad experience with Cuprinol products. Provided you pick the weather and re-coat in the time frame stated on the tin then the job will always go well and you should have a top class finish that lasts for years. The black looks superb on rough finished timber clad barns and outbuildings (feather edged board) and gives a nice finish without too much shine.

Easy to apply and clean up A toned down shade of acorn brown compared to spirit based by Fencepainter

I by mistake ordered the water based version of this preserver. I was half way along the fence with the spirit based version. The colours were so different that I ordered another can of spirit based. Both were labeled acorn brown. Otherwise easy to apply and clean up (used in on side that did not show).

I purchased the wrong product by Clive Goodkind

Very poor choice Water based products do not penetrate . I had to buy solvent based product to achieve full penetration of the wood

Easy to apply & a great looking finish, by Tim Davies

Great product. A bit concerned when it appeared grey when applying but dried to a rich black. Perhaps Cuprinol should consider stating this on the tin.
