Preparation

Preparation

Back

Kitchen work tops and other wooden surfaces to be treated must be clean, dry and free from all surface coatings and contaminates before applying Woca Worktop Oil.

  1. New or previously oiled work tops can be lightly sanded back with a 180 grit sanding disk, screen or good quality sandpaper
  2. To remove existing paint or varnishes, use a suitable paint and varnish remover
  3. Ensure that all traces of sanding dust have been removed using a vacuum cleaner
  4. Following the product instructions, thoroughly clean the area first, using Woca Intensive Wood Cleaner or Woca Intensive Wood Cleaner Spray
  5. Allow to dry for at least 8 hours before applying the worktop oil

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Ensure normal room temperature of 18-25°C and use only in well ventilated areas. This product is ready to use and does not require thinning. Stir well before use.

  1. Apply an even film of Worktop Oil to the surface with a natural bristle brush or lint-free cotton cloth
  2. Leave the oil to soak into the surface for 30 minutes, applying more on dry areas if needed
  3. Using a buffing pad, work the oil fully into the grain of the wood
  4. Wipe off any excess with a clean, lint-free cloth
  5. Allow the surface to sit for an hour, before applying a further 1 - 2 coats
  6. After the final coat, lightly abrade / denib with a finishing pad or an abrasive, 240 - 400 grit
  7. Wipe the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth

Surfaces are ready for light use after 24 hours, but won't be fully cured for a further 7 days, so will need to be protected from dirt and water to prevent staining and discoloration. Any spills should be wiped up immediately.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Regular Cleaning

Clean surfaces weekly using a dampened, cotton cloth using Woca Natural Soap or Woca Natural Soap Spray.

Deep Cleaning

When surfaces begin to look worn over time, simply clean and refresh them with Woca Oil Refreshing Soap or Woca Oil Refreshing Soap Spray.

Do not use household detergents or bleaches as these will degrade the finish.

Maintenance

If the finish becomes tired looking and damaged over time, repeat the steps above, using Woca Worktop Oil or Woca Maintenance Gel.

I have an ash worktop, the last oil I used turned it yellowish. I'd prefer it to be closer to the natural raw colour. Will the white do this for me?

Any clear oil will darken the timber as it soaks in and nourishes the wood. The natural version of Woca Worktop Oil is completely clear with no added pigments so it will enhance the natural tones of the wood and really bring out the wood’s beauty. Often this can give a yellow/ orange tone. The White version of the Woca Worktop Oil will give a white hue which although it wouldn’t darken the timber, it also still may not give the right look that you are after. Why not give our Woodcare Experts a call on 01303 213838 to discuss your options.

Great to use, strong white yet natural look on the old pine tables we used it on
Used this worktop oil on tables for a cafe. Makes a strong but natural white/pale look on the tables, which are old pine sanded back that would normally look quite orange after a coat of oil. Seems like a really good finish and a nice product to use. Worth mentioning that it didnt look as natural on one table which is iroko or teak on which the white pigment acted strongly on making a bit of a whitewashed effect.
