Overview

Overview

Back

Liberon High Resistance Floor Varnish provides exceptional protection for wood floors and a high resistance to foot traffic. It is particularly well suited to areas that are in constant use, such as hallways, dining rooms, lounges and stairs.

Please Note: This product may raise the grain on some hardwoods and may darken some types of timber.

The Wax Effect is Light Oak in tone and does give more of a waxed look than a varnished look to the floor and this can result in a high shine finish.

*While this product is resistant to most types of heel impact once dry, in regard to Stilettos on the varnish, if the wood underneath the varnish is soft then they may leave a nail head type mark to that.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Floors to be varnished must be clean, dry and free from dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants prior to varnishing.

  1. All previous finishes must be removed and the surface stripped back to bare wood by sanding
  2. Fill any gaps or imperfections with Liberon Wood Filler or other suitable floor filler
  3. Floors should be sanded properly and evenly
  4. Floors can be sealed with Liberon Floor Sealer prior to varnishing, if required
  5. If desired, floors can be stained prior to varnishing with Liberon Palette Wood Dye or other suitable wood stain

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Ideal application conditions are between 12°C and 25°C. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

  1. Stir the contents of the tin thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply the floor varnish evenly with a brush or a short-hair roller
  3. Apply the varnish plank by plank, while facing the sunlight
  4. Start in the corner of the room and work back towards the door
  5. Allow 6 hours between coats, lightly sanding between coats, if required
  6. Liberon recommend that a minimum of 3 coats are applied
  7. More coats can be applied for a more durable finish or where foot traffic is particularly heavy
  8. Allow the final coat of varnish a minimum of 24 hours drying time before using the floor

Regular Cleaning

Floors treated with Liberon High Resistance Floor Varnish can be cleaned on a daily basis with a soft broom, dry microfibre mop or with a vacuum cleaner. For wet cleaning, sweep of vacuum the floor first to remove all traces of surface dirt and grit, then clean with a damp (not wet) microfibre cloth or mop and a dedicated wood floor cleaner.

Maintenance

If the floor surface shows signs of wear over time, re-apply a fresh coat of varnish, following the 'preparation' and 'application' instructions above.

Easy to apply; quality finish
Used on old pitch pine floorboards, 3 coats over the course of a week...initially when dry the finish looked glossy, after another week the finish dulled down to a waxed look as promised. Super product, lovelly mellow yellow finish. We will be doing all the floors in our home with this varnish.

Very Good Hard wearing
I found this product to be very hard wearing, very easy to apply, I used a small paint roller. The hard wood oak floor was sanded first and a spirit based stain was used. However the stain is very difficult to apply without water marks so It may be best to use a coloured High resistance floor varnish rather than the clear.

Superb and ultra tough floor varnish
I installed a new water resistant chipboard floor in my home workshop, it’s 5M X 3M. I wanted a tough finish for the floor that would be easy to clean. WFD recommended this product and it has been excellent. I was able to apply 4 coats from just one 2.5 Litre tin, far more coverage than stated on the tin! The finish is so hard, durable looks great. My only advice is that it tends to be a little slow drying but allow about 8 hours between coats on a warm day. This means two coats are possible in one day if the conditions are good. I would thoroughly recommend this product.
