Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt

Before painting, ensure all surfaces are sound, clean and suitably dry, with no contaminants that could prevent adhesion.

• Take extra precautions when preparing pre-1960s painted surfaces, as the existing paint may contain lead
• Remove all loose, flaking or poorly adhering paint and feather the edges of sound paint
• Treat organic growth with a suitable fungicidal solution, such as Sandtex Fungicidal Wash, and remove the growth in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions
• Fill cracks, fixing holes and shallow surface defects with a suitable filler, then sand smooth and remove the dust
• Wash sound paint with warm water and a liquid detergent solution to remove dirt and grease, changing the water regularly
• Wet abrade glossy or eggshell finishes to provide a key, then rinse away all residues with clean water and allow to dry
• Prime powdery surfaces with a suitable stabilising solution, such as Sandtex Quick Drying Stabilising Solution
• Coat porous and absorbent surfaces with a mist coat of Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt diluted with 20-40% clean water by volume
• Touch in any areas filled after priming with the same primer or diluted mist coat used on the surrounding surface
• Prime polished or dense surfaces with a suitable primer where a water-based alternative is preferred
• Patch prime bare and filled areas as appropriate for the surface
• If contaminants likely to cause staining or bleeding remain after cleaning, patch prime with a suitable stain blocking primer

Wood and Metal Surfaces

Follow the cleaning and preparation guidance above, with these additional steps before painting wood or metal.

• For bare wood, wipe timber containing oils or extractives with clean methylated spirits, changing the face of the cloth regularly
• Treat knots with two coats of fresh Colron Knotting Solution, fill holes and open joints with a suitable wood filler, then sand smooth and remove all dust
• Prime bare wood with a suitable Primer Undercoat. On previously painted wood, remove any grey or denatured wood and spot prime bare areas after cleaning and preparation
• Remove rust and millscale from ferrous metal back to clean, bright metal, remove all residues and apply a suitable metal primer within the same working day
• Prime bare non-ferrous metal with a suitable metal Primer . Pre-treat bright galvanised metal with a suitable T Wash before priming
• Bring primed new metal forward with a suitable primer undercoat
• For previously painted metal, remove corrosion and spot prime bare areas with a suitable metal primer. After cleaning and preparation, bring forward spot-primed areas and undercoat overall with a suitable primer undercoat

Always test the paint on a small, representative area to confirm compatibility, colour and appearance before starting. Follow the manufacturer's instructions throughout the project.

Allow sufficient Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt for the required coats and any later maintenance. If several tins of the same colour are needed, combine their contents before use to help achieve a consistent finish.

Use on interior surfaces only. Air and substrate temperatures must not fall below 8°C, and relative humidity must not exceed 80%, while the paint is being applied or drying.

• Mix the paint well, reaching the base and sides of the container, and stir periodically as you work
• Use a good quality synthetic brush or medium pile roller, brushing around fittings and along edges before rolling the main surface
• If applying by airless spray, check the equipment manufacturer's recommendations, as thinning may be necessary
• Finish with two full coats. At 20°C and 65% relative humidity, leave a minimum of 4 hours before applying the next coat
• Under these conditions, the coating should be touch dry after approximately 1 hour. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will extend drying times
• Apply further coats where needed to obtain complete coverage, particularly with certain colours
• Keep the room adequately ventilated during painting and while the coating dries
• Wash application tools promptly after use with water or a warm soap solution, rinsing away any remaining paint

Please note: The finish requires one week to cure fully and develop its scrubbable properties. Leave the surface unwashed during this period.

Cleaning

Leave the finish to cure for one week before washing or scrubbing. Once cured, wipe away everyday marks with a damp cloth. For more thorough cleaning, use warm water with a mild liquid detergent.

Please note: Some colour may transfer to the cloth when the painted surface is first cleaned. This is normal and does not affect the integrity or finished appearance of the paint film.

Maintenance

When the surface needs refreshing, clean it and carry out any necessary preparation before applying a further coat of Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt. Follow the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Class 1 is the highest wet-scrub resistance classification. Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt is independently tested to ISO 11998 and provides 10,000 scrubs durability, allowing regular cleaning without compromising the finished appearance.

Its stain resistance helps new and aged marks to be cleaned from the finished surface. It is not a stain-blocking primer. If existing contaminants could bleed through the paint, clean the surface and patch prime with a suitable stain-blocking primer before decorating.

Yes, provided the plaster is sound, clean and suitably dry. Porous surfaces require a mist coat of Crown Trade Clean Extreme Stain Resistant Scrubbable Matt diluted with 20-40% clean water by volume before the finishing coats are applied.

Yes, it can be applied to suitably prepared interior wood and metalwork, as well as walls and ceilings. Bare wood requires a suitable primer undercoat, while bare metal needs the appropriate metal primer and undercoat. Follow the Preparation instructions above for the surface being painted.

Apply two full coats, allowing at least 4 hours between coats at 20°C and 65% relative humidity. Certain colours may need additional coats for complete coverage. Allow longer drying times in cooler or more humid conditions.

Allow one week for the paint to become fully cured and scrubbable. After this time, remove marks with a damp cloth or clean with warm water and a mild liquid detergent. A small amount of colour may transfer during the first clean without affecting the finish.
