Bona Mega surface preparation.
As with any wood finishing product, care should be taken at all times to ensure that surfaces have been correctly prepared to receive the primer or wood finish. Surfaces should be sanded back to bare wood and be free of all sanding dust, grit, dirt, oil, wax and any other contaminates. The final sanding should be done with a fine sanding disk, screen or good quality sandpaper with a sanding grit of 120 or finer.
Before application, it is important to ensure that the Bona Mega container is shaken to thoroughly mix the contents prior to use, this also applies if the product is to be split into other smaller containers.
Bona Mega is best applied with a roller in a smooth flowing action, care should be taken to avoid accumulations of the finish on the floor. Room temperature must not fall below 13C during the application and drying of this product.
Bona Mega on factory pre-finished & previously finished flooring
General conditions to determine if an overcoating of Bona Mega is possible
- Surfaces must be completely clean and free of all dust, dirt and other contaminates.
- Floors that have been previously treated with wax, polish or other similar products cannot be overcoated with Bona Mega
- Users are advised to test a small area prior to application to see weather Bona Mega will overcoat the area.
Bona will not guarantee good adhesion when overcoating finishes of a brand other than Bona.
With an addition of 2% Bona Cosslinker, Bona Mega will normally have very good adhesion properties on pre-finished flooring, it is advisable however to check the intercoat adhesion prior to overcoating. To check intercoat adhesion, apply a coat of Bona Mega to a small test area as described above i.e. sanded and clean, allow the coating to set for 3 days then scratch the treated floor surface gently with a coin. If the Bona Mega finish stays firmly attached to the test area, the adhesion is satisfactory.
Preparation of factory pre-finished floors
Prior to application of Bona Mega to factory pre-finished floors, the flooring must be treated with the Bona Prep system in accordance with instructions on the container label.
Preparation of previously finished flooring
As with factory pre-finished flooring, previously finished floors must also be treated with Bona Prep system in accordance with the instructions on the label, a sanding disc/screen or paper with a sandpaper grit of 150 should also be used. Apply 1-2 coats of Bona Mega with the addition of 2% Bona Crosslinker.
Always thoroughly read the manufacturers guidance and instructions on the container or tin including any mixing and usage instructions on associated products.
