Sikkens Cetol TSI Satin Plus

Sikkens Cetol TSI Satin Plus is a medium build lacquer designed for smooth wooden surfaces such as doors, architraves, skirting boards, panelling, picture frames and more. For a water-based alternative for skirting boards, doors and other interior trim, try Sikkens Cetol BL Unitop.

The colourless version of this product is clear, however, it may enhance the natural colour and grain of the timber when applied.

Ensure the timber surface is clean, dry and free of dust, dirt, wax and grease prior to application. The timber should be allowed to acclimatise to its end-use environment. Moisture content should not exceed 14%.

Bare or New Timber

1. Degrease any exposed bare timber surface by wiping with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirits
2. Allow solvent to evaporate fully before over-coating
3. Any resinous deposits should be removed with a scraper
4. When filling, be sure to use a designated wood filler, as general or all purpose fillers may not be suitable
5. Do not use Sikkens TSI on substrates or wood preservatives which have water-repellent properties i.e. products or timbers that contain wood oils or waxes

Previously Coated Timber

1. Denib using a fine grade nylon abrasive pad or a fine grade (P240 or finer) wet or dry silicon carbide abrasive paper, in the direction of the grain, ensuring not to break through the surface coating
2. Remove all traces of sanding dust
3. Where there is localised damage, or deterioration has occurred as a result of exposure of the factory coating for longer than 3 months, affected areas should be thoroughly sanded back to a sound substrate

Old Timber

• Damaged or decayed timber must be removed and replaced, cutting at least 25mm into sound timber

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Sikkens TSI is ready-to-use from the tin. Do not thin. Only apply in temperatures ranging between 5°C to 30°C. Stir thoroughly before and during application. This product is not suitable for spraying.

1. Apply Cetol TSI with a good quality, long haired, natural bristle brush.
2. Apply in a full flowing coat, laying off in the direction of the grain, using the minimum number of brush strokes necessary
3. Allow 16 hours to dry between each coat
4. Apply second and third coat as above

Regular Cleaning

For regular cleaning, wipe wood surfaces with a lint-free cloth and warm water.

Repair

1. Lightly sand with a fine grade abrasive paper to keep splinters and rough edges away
2. If the timber has been stained, lightly sand but avoid sanding back to underlying stain
3. Remove all dust thoroughly and apply 1 or 2 coats of Sikkens Cetol TSI Satin Plus

We would recommend using a water-based varnish instead. Oil-based varnish will likely discolour the paint. Take a look at Smith and Rodger Rocktop Multi-Surface Clearcoat which is specifically designed to sit over paint work and give a tough, durable, clear coating over the surface.

As this is a solvent-based varnish, it will likely yellow over the white paint. We would recommend looking at a water-based varnish instead such as Sikkens Cetol BL Unitop.

If the old finish is in good condition, lightly sand to provide a key and apply the Sikkens Cetol TSI Satin Plus as above. If there are areas of peeling, flaking or cracking, sand the previous coating off, back to bare wood before applying.
