Preparation

Preparation

Back

Proper preparation is essential to achieve the best adhesion, appearance and durability when applying Ciranova Fortico 2C. Ensure that surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, grease or any other surface contaminants before application.

  1. Remove any existing paint, varnish, lacquer or other finish completely to expose clean bare wood.
  2. Take care when working with coatings on older surfaces, particularly pre-1960s paints, as they may contain lead. If in doubt, test the coating before sanding or seek professional advice.
  3. Ensure the timber is free from dust, grease and other contaminants before beginning the sanding process.
  4. Sand the surface progressively using the correct sanding sequence, typically starting with 60 grit, followed by 80 grit and finishing with 100 grit.
  5. Fortico 2C can be applied to properly prepared sanded, planed or brushed wood surfaces.
  6. For a lighter finish, Ciranova Woodlook Plus can be used as a primer before applying Fortico 2C.
  7. For floors with underfloor heating, exotic wood species or cork, the use of a suitable compatible primer is recommended to help promote adhesion and achieve an even finish.

Application

Application

Back

Ciranova Fortico 2C can be used as both a primer and finishing coat and is typically applied in three coats to achieve a durable and even finish.

  1. Mix the water-based finish with the supplied hardener at a ratio of 10:1 (10%).
  2. Allow the mixture to stand for approximately 15 minutes before application.
  3. Once mixed, the product has a working time (pot life) of approximately 3 hours.
  4. Apply the product using a brush or short-pile microfibre roller suitable for water-based lacquers.
  5. Apply the first coat evenly in the direction of the wood grain.
  6. Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 4 hours, then apply the second coat in the same manner.
  7. After approximately 6 hours, lightly sand the surface using abrasive paper between P180-P220 to smooth the surface and remove raised grain.
  8. Remove all sanding dust thoroughly before applying the final coat evenly in the direction of the wood grain.

Drying Times

  1. Dust dry: after approximately 20-30 minutes
  2. Sandable: after approximately 4-6 hours
  3. Lightly walkable: after approximately 24 hours
  4. Fully cured: approximately 7 days

Drying times may vary depending on the amount applied, temperature, humidity and ventilation.
