Overview

Overview

Back

Barrettine Timber Cut End Preserver is a solvent-based end grain preserver. Available as two options:

  • Clear End Grain - for use on timber which has been pressure treated with tanatone, giving a brown colouration.
  • Green End Grain - for use on timber that has been tanalised and looks green

Whenever treated timber, such as decking boards or fence panels are cut to size, notched or bored prior to fitting, the newly exposed surface should be re-treated with the appropriate Barrettine Timber Cut End Preserver to maintain the level of protection against fungal and insect attack.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Freshly sawn ends should be free of wood dust and debris before applying Barrettine Timber Cut End Preserver.

Ensure surrounding areas, soil, plants and any aquatic environments are protected from splashes or spills.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Shake or stir well prior to application.

  1. Apply Barrettine Timber Cut End Preserver using a synthetic brush or microfibre roller
  2. For the best protection apply a minimum of 2 thin and even coats, depending on the surface and species of wood
  3. Apply liberally to cross-cut, notched or drilled timber and allow it to be absorbed
  4. End grain can be dipped in the preserver for an hour to achieve a deeper penetration
  5. Allow 12 hours drying time between coats and 24 hours for overall drying time

Please note: When using a dye or stain on the wood, it is recommended to apply this first before using the clear end grain. Do a test area to see the overall finish.

Cleaning Equipment

After use, paint brushes can be cleaned with Barrettine Brush Cleaner or Barrettine Paint Brush Restorer.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Once fully dry, treated sawn ends of decking boards can be over-coated with Barrettine Decking Oil and cladding, fencing and summer houses can be treated with a Barrettine wood oil or other compatible exterior wood oil.
