Sikkens Cetol BL Primer

Sikkens Cetol BL Primer is a high quality, water-based exterior opaque primer for wood. It's perfect for protecting the final top coat from the bleeding of naturally occurring resinous deposits in the wood and to aid the top coat's adhesion to the substrate, which minimises cracking and peeling.

• Perfect for use in conjunction with Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque or any other water-based, exterior opaque finish

Ensure timber surfaces to be treated are suitably prepared, clean and dry, and free from any dust, dirt, wax and grease. Allow timber to acclimatise to its end-use environment. The moisture content of the timber should not exceed 18% prior to coating.

Bare or New Timber

1. Degrease any exposed bare timber surface by wiping with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirits
2. Allow solvent to evaporate fully before application
3. Any resinous deposits should be removed with a scraper
4. When filling, be sure to use a designated wood filler, as general or all purpose fillers may not be suitable
5. Do not use on substrates or wood preservatives which have water-repellent properties, i.e. products or timbers that contain wood oils or waxes
6. Only use non-ferrous screws, nails and fixings

Previously Coated Timber

1. Denib (lightly sand) using a fine grade nylon abrasive pad or a fine grade (P240 or finer) wet or dry silicon carbide abrasive paper, in the direction of the grain
2. Do not break through the surface coating, and remove any remaining sanding dust
3. Where there is localised damage, or deterioration has occurred as a result of exposure of the factory coating for longer than 3 months, affected areas should be thoroughly sanded back to a sound substrate

Old Timber

• Damaged or decayed timber must be removed and replaced, cutting at least 25mm into sound timber

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

1. Apply one coat of Cetol BL Primer with a good quality synthetic brush or microfibre roller
2. Allow 3 hours to fully dry

Once dry, Sikkens Cetol BL Primer must be finished with 2 coats of Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque.
