Overview

Back

Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint is a high concentrated chalk floor paint, suitable for all interior wood flooring, concrete floors, as well as previously painted surfaces. Tough and hard-wearing, the paint is ideal for use in hallways, lounges, bedrooms and playrooms. Quick and easy to apply.

Please Note: This product is not suitable for floors subjected to regular wetting, such as bathroom or garage floors and is not recommended for use on tile or laminate flooring.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, mould or adhesives. If needed, clean surface using an appropriate cleaning solution.

  1. Take special precautions during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces, as they may contain harmful lead
  2. Lightly sand glossy paint and exposed wood, removing any loose material
  3. Fill any nail holes and imperfections with a suitable multi-purpose filler and spot prime the area
  4. Spot prime sanded areas or where paint has been scraped, using an appropriate primer for a smooth surface

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Only apply at temperatures ranging between 10°C and 30°C.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint with a synthetic brush or short nap mohair roller
  3. For best results, start in the corner of the room furthest from the door
  4. When painting wooden floorboards, work on 2 floorboards at a time to avoid overlapping and finish in the same direction as the wood grain
  5. Apply 2 coats, leaving 4 hours between coats
  6. Allow to fully dry for 24 hours before allowing light foot traffic
  7. Fully cured after 7 days

Regular Cleaning

For general everyday cleaning, floors can be dry swept with a broom or floor brush and then vacuumed.

Deep Cleaning

For deeper cleaning, use a damp (not wet) lint-free cloth or mop and an appropriate floor cleaning solution. Avoid using household cleaners and detergents where possible, as these may degrade the finish or potentially ruin it over time.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint as required, following the Preparation and Application instructions.

Repair

For localised areas that are showing signs of wear, these can be patch repaired by first cleaning, then applying a fresh layer of Rust-Oleum floor paint to the affected area.

Can I use this Chalky Floor Paint on doors if I sand off the gloss?

This product can be used over painted doors but you must ensure that you scratch the gloss surface to provide a key and allow the chalk paint to adhere properly by dulling down the shine.

Can you use Rust-Oleum Floor Paint on granite work tops?

We wouldn't normally recommend using this for worktops as it will not handle liquid spillages and high humidity as well as other products could. To offer the surface a layer of protection, try applying XXX over the top of the chalk paint to give the surface better resistance. Please note, this will lose the chalky finish of the paint.
