Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wood surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%).

  1. Clean old microporous finishes thoroughly
  2. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed and stripped back to bare wood prior to application
  3. Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood with Osmo Wood Filler
  4. Carefully sand the wood starting with a coarse sandpaper before finishing with a finer grit sandpaper
  5. Final sanding for flooring use a P120- 150 grit abrasive, for furniture use a P180-240 grit abrasive
  6. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner before oilin
  7. For additional protection in damp environments such as kitchens and bathrooms, consider pre-treating the wood with Osmo Wood Protector 4006, a biocide-free wax impregnation treatment

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Osmo Polyx Oil Express is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use.

  1. Apply Osmo Polyx Oil Express thinly and evenly with a good quality, natural bristle brush, such as the Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Floor Brush, a microfibre roller, such as Osmo Premium Microfibre Roller, or Osmo Double Blade Scraper following the wood grain
  2. Spread well within 10 minutes and avoid build up of excess product
  3. Leave to dry for approximately 2-3 hours with good ventilation (3-4 without hardener)
  4. Once dry, apply a second coat as above
  5. Apply a maximum of 1 coat thinly to cabinet interiors and drawers with a soft, lint-free cloth

Please Note: Lower temperatures and / or higher air humidity can increase the drying time. Allow for good ventilation while drying. After 2-3 weeks, the surface will have completely hardened. On cork, longer drying times are to be taken into consideration (at least 6-8 hours).

Cleaning Equipment

Tools can be cleaned after use with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000).

Finishing

Back

If a higher gloss level is desired, after Polyx Oil Express has thoroughly dried, apply Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner thinly and then buff with a lint-free cloth when dry.

Cleaning

For regular cleaning, any coarse dirt can be simply removed with a brush or broom or by using a vacuum cleaner. Osmo Spray Cleaner or a mix of Osmo Wash and Care and water can be used as and when required.

For optimal cleaning of floors it is recommended to use the Osmo Floor Maintenance Kit.

To refresh and clean intensively, use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner or Osmo Intensive Cleaner when necessary.

Maintenance

When renovating or recoating an already oiled surface, one coat of Osmo Polyx Oil Express applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient. Sanding before re-application is normally not necessary. Be sure to follow the Application instructions above.

Osmo Maintenance Oil can also be used for maintaining and changing the gloss level of surfaces treated with Osmo Polyx Oils.
