Overview
Fiddes Oxalic Acid Crystals, once diluted can be used to remove light stains and blemishes from wood surfaces and to bleach and lighten wood. This solution can also be used for reversing the greying effects caused by the sun's harmful UV rays.
Preparation
Surfaces to be treated should be clean, dry and free from any dust, dirt or other surface contaminants.
When using this product, make sure to wear protective gloves, safety goggles, clothing which will protect against skin contact and a face mask or other suitable respiratory protection equipment.
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tub at all times.
- Dissolve approximately 500 grams of Fiddes Oxalic Acid Crystals in 5 Litres of hot water
- A 100% saturated solution is achieved when a precipitation of Oxalic Acid Crystals is evident in the container
- Use the solution while hot with a natural bristle brush, and rub well into the surface with a scrubbing brush if required
- Apply liberally, allowing the solution to remain on the surface until the desired lightness has been achieved
- Repeat the process if necessary
- If solution cools before the desired bleaching effect is achieved, reheat solution, however do not boil
- Triple rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry
- When completely dry, lightly sand the surface
Please Note: The surface must be clean and completely dry before refinishing. Incomplete drying and retained subsurface moisture can cause finish adhesion failure.
Finishing
Once dry, a wood preservative can be applied if necessary, then finished with a product from the Fiddes range.
