Dulux Trade Weathershield Preservative Primer+ (BP) penetrates deep into wood to seal and protect it against water damage, decay and blue stain fungi. It provides 8 year weathering durability when used as part of the full Weathershield exterior paint system.
The light green tint of the preservative helps users to detect which areas the primer has been applied to during application but dries clear within 2 days.
To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry), and free from any dust, dirt or other surface contaminants.
Please Note: New joinery is often factory primed using a stain basecoat (also called a dual-purpose primer). These materials quickly erode when left exposed and may need to be re-primed. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood as they may contain harmful lead.
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. This product should be brush applied only, do not spray.
Please Note: When painting resinous wood or woodwork with a history of blistering it is advisable to use light colours only, particularly on south facing elevations. The maximum benefits of this system will only be realised when used as directed above on good quality timber that conforms to BS EN 942: 2007, in conjunction with good component design.
Once dry, Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Preservative Primer+ (BP) should be finished with the Weathershield system in the following manner:
