Back

Dulux Trade Supermatt is a high opacity, water-based emulsion paint for interior walls, drywall and ceilings. It offers excellent coverage and is ideal for use on new plaster which isn't fully dry.

Please note: This product may not be suitable where condensation is a problem e.g. some kitchens and bathrooms.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, mostly dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface contaminants.

  1. Remove all loose and defective paint by sanding, using a scraper or suitable paint stripper
  2. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
  3. Where necessary, wipe the surface with a dampened lint-free cloth to remove dirt, grease and powdery or dusty residues prior to painting
  4. Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate filler
  5. If required, rub down surfaces and then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove dust
  6. Seal all surfaces that remain powdery after thorough preparation with an appropriate plaster sealer, or use Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer, which will also seal in any stains

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply in temperatures below 8°C. For the best colour consistency, purchase sufficient tinted paint for each job, including touch-in, at one time from the same source.

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply with a good quality synthetic paint brush, microfibre roller, conventional spray or airless spray system
  3. Seal new or bare surfaces with a thinned first coat of Dulux Trade Supermatt, up to 1 part clean water to 3 parts paint
  4. The normal finishing process is 2 coats of thinned Supermatt, up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint
  5. Allow 2 to 4 hours drying time between coats

Thinning Guidelines

  • Sealing new or bare surfaces: Add up to 1 part clean water to 3 parts paint
  • Normal use (not to be exceeded): Add up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint
  • Conventional spray application: Add up to 1 part clean water to 2.5 parts paint
  • Airless spray application: Add up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint

Is Dulux Trade Super Matt a good idea for a media wall?

The ultra matt sheen makes it a good selection but this isn't the most durable of paints. For those in need of extra protection (for example, pubs showing matches) we would instead suggest looking at Dulux Trade Durable Flat Matt Paint.
