Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat

Surfaces to be painted must be sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust, grease and anything that could affect adhesion.

Please note: Take special precautions when preparing pre-1960s painted surfaces, as they may contain harmful levels of lead. Avoid inhaling dust during preparation and wear suitable respiratory protection.

1. Remove loose and failing paint, feathering the edges of the remaining sound coating.
2. Treat mould, algae and other organic growth with a suitable fungicidal wash, such a Sandtex Fungicidal Wash, following the manufacturer's instructions, and remove the growth.
3. Fill holes, cracks and shallow defects with a suitable Wood Filler. Once set, smooth the repairs and remove all dust.
4. Wash previously painted surfaces with a warm water and liquid detergent solution, changing the water regularly.
5. Wet abrade sound painted wood and glossy or eggshell metal coatings to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove residues and allow to dry.

Additional Preparation for Wood

1. Remove any grey, weathered wood by sanding back to a sound surface.
2. Clean exposed timber containing oils or extractives with methylated spirits, frequently changing the face of the cloth.
3. Treat exposed knots with two thin coats of fresh Colron Knotting Solution.

Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat can be applied directly to prepared bare wood; a separate wood primer is not required. Spot prime exposed areas on previously decorated wood with this product before undercoating overall.

Additional Preparation for Metal

1. On new metal, excluding galvanised surfaces, lightly abrade to a bright, but not polished, surface. Remove all residues and apply a suitable metal primer.
2. On bright galvanised metal, degrease thoroughly and pre-treat with a suitable T wash, following the manufacturer's instructions. Overall blackening indicates successful treatment. Allow to dry, then apply a suitable metal primer.
3. Prime bare non-ferrous metal with a suitable metal primer before applying Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat.
4. On ferrous metal, remove rust and millscale back to clean, bright metal. Remove all residues and apply a suitable metal primer within the same working day.
5. On previously decorated metal, remove corrosion back to clean, bright metal and spot prime exposed areas with a suitable metal primer. Allow to dry before undercoating.

Always carry out a test application to check suitability and compatibility with the prepared surface. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container.

Do not apply if air or surface temperatures are likely to fall below 8°C, or if relative humidity exceeds 80%, during application or drying.

6. Avoid excessive sanding between coats. Leave newly painted doors and windows open until the paint is fully dry.

Clean brushes and equipment immediately after use with clean water or warm soapy water, then rinse thoroughly.
