Do you have any explanation for this please?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the oil penetrates the surface of the wood rather than dries on the top it will leave a very natural feel to the surface unlike varnish which will cover and dry as a far smoother surface finish. It does sound like the oil has raised the grain slightly and we do recommend denibbing the surface between coats to smooth and bring the grain back down, preparing the wood for the second coat. You can do this with a \n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-finishes-direct.com\/product\/woodleys-finishing-pads\" target=\"_blank\">\nWoodleys Finishing Pad<\/a>, sanding in the direction of the grain. Ultimately using a wood oil will preserve the natural texture of the wood surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you use Osmo Polyx Oil on kitchen worktops?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Osmo Polyx Oil is a hardwax oil which combines all the advantages of oils and waxes in one product. it goes on and gives the appearance of a traditional oil but offers a durability comparable to some varnishes. It is resistant to water, dirt, wine, coffee etc and is microporous, so will not crack, peel or blister. A better option could be \n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-finishes-direct.com\/product\/osmo-top-oil\" target=\"_blank\">\nOsmo Top Oil<\/a> that is specifically formulated for kitchen worktops and is available in a range of finish types including matt and satin, natural, white, acacia and more. First off, what actually is it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is specially designed to retain the natural, untreated appearance of lighter coloured timbers such as Oak and Pine. It\u2019s secret to achieving this look is the small amount of white pigment within the formulation that counteracts the darker \u201cwet look\u201d that occurs when using the clearer versions. It\u2019s because of this pigment we don\u2019t recommend use of this product on darker timbers as it can leave a milky looking finish. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw only dries to a Matt finish and requires no base coat or top coat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me show you a very simple test called the water test. This test will help us establish if the wood is bare or previously treated. All you need is a drop of tap water, apply a drop to the wood and leave for 30 seconds, easy right? If the water beads then you know there is an existing finish on the wood. If the water soaks in you can move straight onto application!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s always a great idea to start with the best canvas possible, sand your wood through the grits upto P120, with the Raw its very important to make sure you work with the grain to avoid scratch marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over application isn\u2019t uncommon with Polyx Oil but is avoidable by using the P.A.R.S.E. Method<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prepare properly &#8211; sand the wood to P120<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply thinly &#8211; always working with the grain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove excess &#8211; using a microfibre cloth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sand lightly &#8211; abrade the surface with a finishing pad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>End coat &#8211; Apply and leave to dry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Nice and easy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Do you need further technical assistance or advice on your project?
