It&#8217;s <strong>self-priming and undercoating on timber<\/strong>, so in many situations there is no need to work through separate primer, undercoat and finishing products. One of the best examples we\u2019ve seen is this striking blue house. An experienced trade customer used it extensively across the exterior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sadolin Superdec - The Blue House project\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RQs9ynL81IE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than looking at a sample board, this project gives a better idea of what can be achieved on a real property. It shows how dramatically exterior timber can be transformed with colour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But appearance is only part of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exterior timber naturally expands and contracts as temperatures and moisture levels change. Superdec is designed to remain flexible, helping the coating resist cracking, peeling and flaking as the timber moves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also <strong>vapour permeable<\/strong>, allowing moisture vapour within the timber to escape rather than becoming trapped beneath the coating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there is drying time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest Superdec formulation is touch dry in approximately <strong>1\u20132 hours and recoatable after around 6 hours at 20\u00b0C and 65% relative humidity<\/strong>. Any mould, algae or other organic growth should also be properly treated and removed rather than simply painted over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadolin recommends that timber is suitably dry before coating, with a moisture content of no more than <strong>18%<\/strong>. Untreated exterior softwood may also require a suitable wood preservative before the decorative finish is applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is another useful point to bear in mind if you are working with white or pale colours.
