If the&nbsp;wood&nbsp;&nbsp;has&nbsp;been previously oiled, waxed or polished, then the product would need to be completely removed by sanding back to bare wood or using a suitable&nbsp;\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wood-finishes-direct.com\/product-type\/removers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\nwood stripper<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the advantage of a varnish?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Varnishes are tough, hard wearing and easily cleaned. Wood varnish is generally more durable than a wax or oil but is not as easy to maintain or repair if it becomes worn or damaged.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which is the most durable floor finish?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A varnish is the most hard-wearing finish to use for wood flooring. Preparation is key! So, if you haven&#8217;t already seen the before you buy video check that out now.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Applicators<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The applicator you ultimately use will depend on your project and personal preference, but it can be applied with a synthetic bristle brush, microfiber roller or with an electric or compressor-based spray system&#8230; if you have one.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My applicator of choice is the&nbsp;ProDec&nbsp;Premier Synthetic Brush, I like the level of control they give,&nbsp;aswell&nbsp;they come in a range of sizes depending on your project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Finish<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With our applicator selected we are ready to get started.&nbsp;For the best protection, we recommend applying 1 coat of&nbsp;Manns Extra Tough Primer&nbsp;followed by 2 coats of Manns Extra Tough Interior Varnish but for today&#8217;s video as we are showcasing the varnish, I will just be applying that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its&nbsp;important to keep on top of stirring thoroughly before and during application for consistency of sheen. Then pour some into a paint tray, load the brush, dab off any excess and apply thinly, making sure you work in manageable and always with the grain, and leave to dry being careful not to allow the varnish to pool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your first coat has dried rub down the surface with a&nbsp;Woodleys&nbsp;Finishing Pad this helps smooth out the finish and aids adhesion of further coats, then apply your second and final coat of varnish, and you&#8217;re done. Easy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between coats, you can keep brushes and other applicators in airtight bag or container to prevent them drying out.
