Liming wax for a great white-grain effect

The finished liming wax effect achieves a good overall shine and can be enhanced by encouraging the wax into the wood grain. Transform the look of old kitchen cupboards and pieces of furniture with this great lime wax product!

Our liming wax is ideal for easy application onto sealed wood to obtain a 'white flecked', limed effect. Once applied and dried, the liming wax finish can be sealed with easy wax polish, clear varnish or with acrylic interior varnish for extra protection and durability.

To obtain a 'white washed' effect on bare wood or untreated furniture, Liming Wax polish can be easily applied directly onto the wooden or furniture surface, this will provide a good sheen (not gloss) to your finished project.

Liming Wax works especially well with oak or similar hard woods which have little soft grain. This is because it's easy to brush out too much soft wax which can result in large white troughs rather than flecks, soft woods such as pine are not ideal for liming wax polish because there are many large areas that contain very soft wood.

Any number of wax coats can be applied over the Liming Wax finish to get the desired affect, it's normal to re-wax a surface every 6-12 months although this is not essential. Additional coats of wax will offer an improved patina and increased durability to your furniture and wood surfaces.

Liming Wax for wood will keep in an airtight container for at least 2 years if stored at temperatures above 8 degrees C and below 22 degrees C, in most instances it will last much longer if kept in the right conditions. As with almost all wood care products, if exposed to very cold or hot temperatures the consistency and performance of the product may change, liming wax will normally return to a useable consistency albeit not quite the same as when new when returned to normal conditions!

As one of the leading liming wax suppliers in the UK, you can be assured that our liming wax is made from the finest ingredients to ensure the best possible finish.

All untreated surfaces need to be clean and dry. Apply sparingly, working on small areas at a time. Buff to a sheen after the recommended drying time.

Once a sealer has been applied to your wood use a wire brush to 'brush out' some of the soft grain to create grooves for the liming wax to adhere to. Apply the Liming Wax liberally with a stockinette cloth or foam sponge. Once dry, rub off the excess wax and seal in the effect with our acrylic interior varnish which will also help to dissolve unwanted Liming Wax left on the surface at the same time.

Buffing Liming Wax

To achieve a deep lustre, buff the waxed surface with a clean coarse stockinette cloth. Turned and moulded areas are easier to buff with a brush such as one of our hand buffing brushes. Drill buffing brushes are also available which can be attached to a standard electric drill saving on time and elbow grease! A range of brushes & applicators for this job and many more are available from wood-finishes-direct.

Coverage

It is difficult to give accurate coverage estimates as the amount required varies dramatically from wood to wood. As a guideline we recommend allowing 500ml of Liming Wax for each 10 square metres.

Drying Time

A thick coat will dry within 20 minutes and a thin coat will dry in around 5 mins.
