Our wax stain is made with the finest natural ingredients using quality pigments derived from plants and other naturally forming resources from around the world. (This is important as lesser quality stains with low quality pigments can produce a washed out or zebra crossing effect) on finished wood or furniture. The correct pigments will offer good penetration and will greatly enhance the grain structure of the wood. Wax Stain has 3 main advantages over a regular water stain:
Avoid heavy staining with this product as a mottled look can be created, however, in the trade, this is often done deliberately to produce a shaded/old look to the finished piece of furniture. By mixing with other wax stains or one of our concentrated dyes such as yellow, red, orange or brown, you can create your own colour. Just select a stain that is closest to your requirement and adjust. Thousands of new shades can be created by inter-mixing our extensive range. To lighten wax stain, just add tap water or to retain the wax content add clear wax stain. Clear wax stain is also useful if used as a base for mixing concentrated dyes for furniture, decking or floors. Wax stains will raise the grain of the wood, the amount it raises however will vary depending on the wood being used. If you're looking for an old rustic appearance for the wood or furniture that's being worked, a raised grain will do the trick. This effect can be further enhanced by brushing a dark wax into the raised grain, this acts as a highlighter enhancing the peaks and troughs of the wood grain. If a smooth wood or furniture finish is preferred, this can still be achieved when using wax stains. Simply dampen the wood surface with a fine water mist or moist towel first, leave to dry for at least an hour and then lightly sand the surface. Do not sand too deeply or you will be back where you started! Once the grain has been dampened and flattened the wood grain shouldn't raise a second time. Our wax stains will keep at temperatures above 8 degrees C for a minimum of 1 year. For the best results, we recommend that the product is shaken or stirred before use. |
Application
|
Work at a fluent pace keeping the stain as neat as possible and working in the direction of the grain. A spray gun is the quickest way to apply wax stain but a paint brush or sponge is a neat method of application. Once applied, wipe back the surface stain with a sponge or absorbent cloth about 30 seconds after applying, to remove any excess. A foam sponge can be used for large flat pieces as any heavily stained areas can be soaked up by the sponge as you work. Similarly by applying a little more pressure, more stain can be released to save time returning to the container for more. Alternatively, a paint brush is a neat way to apply the stain and helps keep the stain away from areas where it is not wanted, for example when staining skirting boards, door frames etc, but as a general rule always use masking tape when brushing. Container Sizes500ml: Covers approx 4 side chairs or 2 bedside cupboards (inside & out). CoverageApprox 12 Square metres per litre depending on the temperature, amount applied and the type of wood being worked on. Drying TimeA generous coat will dry within 4 hours at room temperature. A thin coat will dry in around 2 hours. Drying times vary according to temperature, how much is applied and the wood being worked on. UsesExcluding oak, wax stains are suitable for most timbers. |
