Linseed Oil is extracted from the flax seed and is very safe to work with. Raw Linseed Oil is suitable for human consumption (and has some medicinal purposes). It has a natural warm yellow tinge and indeed it adds this look to your wood which naturally mellows with age.
Raw Linseed Oil is suitable for all types of wood, making it very popular with hobbyists, makers of small items (such as fruit bowls) as well as sports equipment i.e. cricket bats, snooker cues and some instruments. It is very water resistant and can be used for outside furniture and front doors. Even table tops and food preparation surfaces can be effectively finished with Raw Linseed Oil.
Linseed Oil has a very slow drying/curing time, which may not be practical for business or commercial applications that require a fast turn around.
Raw Linseed Oil can be used for outside use but we do recommend using a wood preservative beforehand to avoid mildew occurring at a later date. Mildew and algae can further be prevented by applying Raw Linseed Oil to all of the surfaces including all the undersides.
Excess Linseed Oil can be removed with white spirit. Our Linseed Oils are also great for terracotta tiles, concrete and stone items, such as, steps and garden furniture. |
