Polyurethane Varnish

If you have an area that needs maximum protection against liquids, heat, damages and even many chemicals then we have a PU Lacquer for you. It is easily applied by any of our applicators and brushes and best results are obtained after 3 coats.

The lacquer appears as a slightly peachy shade in the tub but once on the wood it dries completely clear, although as with any varnish the woods natural colour is slightly enhanced, which customers say is for the better.

Apart from durability another great advantage of this product is that it can be tinted using our compatible water based dyes.

Please note that if you apply water based varnishes on top of a water based stain (or dye) then the water in the varnish can dislodge the water in the stain, which could result in a patchy finish. The way around this happening is to use a minimum of brush strokes, preferably passing the brush over the surface in one direction. However this only needs to be done for the first layer of varnish. Subsequent coats can be applied as normal. Spraying will also avoid this problem from occurring.

This product is very easy to apply with a paint brush. Keep used paint brushes in warm water or methylated spirits immediately after use. Is also usable with many spray machines. If spraying apply a medium coat, heavy coats can increase the chances of orange peeling.

Container Sizes and coverage

Our polyurethane varnish will cover approx 10 square metres per litre depending on the temperature, amount applied and the type of wood being worked on.
500ml: About 2 side chairs.
1lt: Covers a 2 door wardrobe or a large chest of drawers.
5lt: Floor approx. 7mtrs x 4mtrs (23ft x 14ft approx) with 2 coats.
20lt: About enough for an area the size of a tennis court.

Drying Time

Re-coating time: 2 hours.

A medium coat will be touch dry within 4 hours although the curing time is 12-24 hours (before the surface can be used).
