Two Pack Water Based Wood Varnish
This very tough water based varnish needs to be mixed with the catalyst provided at a ratio of 10 parts varnish to 1 part catalyst. It needs to be used within 12 hours of mixing the hardener and varnish together so ideally just the amount required needs to be mixed.
2 Pack Water varnish is a very strong water borne varnish that has been designed to give good wear and durability qualities to most wooden surfaces and especially floors in a commercial environment. This water based varnish is ideal for use on areas that are subject to a high degree of wear such as floors, kitchen surfaces and table tops.
Easily applied with a paint brush, acrylic roller or HVLP spray machine, this varnish appears to have a slight colour in the tub but dries completely clear on the wooden surface. As with all non-pigmented products, the look of the wooden surface does tend to brighten a little after application with a visible enhancement to the wood grain. Most customers say that the enhancement of the wood colour and grain is for the better.
If 2 Pack Water varnish is being brush applied on top of a water based wood stain, it is advisable to try to use a minimum of brush strokes to avoid dislodging the colour in the stain. This is only necessary when applying the first coat, subsequent coats of varnish can be applied as normal.
An advantage of this clear wood varnish is that it can be tinted using our compatible water based wood dyes. This is useful, if for example, a piece has been previously stained or finished with a lacquer or varnish but the colour is not to your liking. Simply add some brown dye to the water based varnish and apply another coat until the right shade is achieved. Further colour and shade adjustments can be made by adding red, orange, yellow, black or a combination of wood dyes if necessary.
Drying Times: Recoating time is 4 hours and curing time is around 18 hours. At least 3 coats should be used on a commercial floor.
At temperatures above 4 degrees C and below 28 degrees C, Extra Tough Water Varnish will keep for at least a year. As with most water based products avoid temperatures below zero or the water content of the varnish may freeze!
