This is a strong water borne varnish, designed to give good wear and durability to most wooden surfaces including bedroom furniture, skirting and most wooden areas. It is not recommended for ares subject to heavy wear or spillages, such as a floors, work surfaces and table tops. It is not too liquid making it easy to apply with a paint brush. In the tub it is white in colour but once on the wood it dries completely clear. As with all non-pigmented products the colour of your piece before application does change a little which most customers say is for the better. It tends to brighten the look a little.
If Acrylic Interior Varnish is being applied on top of a water based stain it is advisable to use a minimum of brush strokes to avoid dislodging the colour in the stain. This is only necessary when applying the first coat, subsequent coats can be applied as normal.
Another advantage of this product is that it can be tinted using our compatible water based dyes. This could be useful, if for example, a piece has been stained or finished with a lacquer but the colour is not to your liking. Simply add some brown dye to the water lacquer and apply another coat until the right shade is achieved. Further adjustments can be made by adding red, orange, yellow or black if necessary.
At temperatures above 4 degrees C and below 28 degrees C, Extra Tough Water Lacquer will keep for at least a year. As with most water based products avoid temperatures below zero or the water content of the product can freeze!
Please note that if you apply water based varnishes on top of a water based stain (or dye) then the water in the varnish can dislodge the water in the stain, which could result in a patchy finish. The way around this happening is to use a minimum of brush strokes, preferably passing the brush over the surface in one direction. However this only needs to be done for the first layer of varnish. Subsequent coats can be applied as normal. Spraying will also avoid this problem from occurring.
