Sikkens Rubbol Satura Plus forms part of the Sikkens range of products.

Ensure that timber surfaces to be treated are suitably prepared, clean, dry and free from surface dust, dirt, wax and grease.

New or Bare Timber

  • Resinous deposits should be removed with a scraper
  • Any remaining residues should be removed using a lint-free cloth dampened with a suitable solvent
  • Allow solvent to evaporate fully before over-coating
  • A knotting solution may be used to reduce extractive discolouration, however, knotting is not always fully effective in sealing in resin, and the adhesion of coatings can be impaired
  • When filling, use a suitable wood filler specifically designed for use with timber, as general or all purpose fillers are not suitable, particularly on external areas
  • Do not use wood preservatives or substrates which have had water-repellent preservative pre-treatments applied
  • Where possible, at least the first coat should be applied all round prior to fixing
  • Only use non-ferrous screws, nails and fixings

Previously Coated Timber

  • Denib using a fine grade nylon abrasive pad or a fine grade (P240 or finer) wet or dry silicon carbide abrasive paper, in the direction of the grain, ensuring not to break through the surface coating
  • Remove ant remaining sanding dust
  • To ensure optimum durability, Sikkens recommend the use of a coat of Sikkens Rubbol Primer Plus prior to using Sikkens Paint
  • Where there is localised damage, or deterioration has occurred as a result of exposure of the factory coating for longer than 3 months, affected areas should be thoroughly sanded back to a sound substrate and treated as 'New Timber'

Old Timber

All damaged or decayed timber must be removed and replaced, cutting at least 25mm into sound timber.

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Allow timber to acclimatise to its end-use environment. The moisture content should not exceed 18% prior to coating. Degrease any exposed bare timber surface by wiping with a cloth dampened in a suitable solvent.

  1. Apply 2 coats of Sikkens Rubbol Satura Plus with a brush or roller
  2. Allow 18 hours between coats

Excellent finish by Imran Ahmed

Used with the primer although that probably wasn't necessary as I was painting new, raw, untreated timber. Have a nice white opaque finish as required.
