Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment is perfect for all exterior wood, including log cabins, summer houses, sheds, fences and decking. Adds additional protection to wood that has been previously pressure treated or treated with an exterior wood preservative.

Ensure surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from loose dirt and other surface contaminants.

  1. Repellent coatings such as paints, varnishes and coating type stains must be fully removed by sanding or with a suitable exterior paint and varnish remover
  2. Sweep the surface with a stiff broom or brush to remove all traces of surface dirt, debris, mould, algae or fungi
  3. Treat areas affected by algae, mould and mildew with a mould and mildew treatment
  4. Applying 2 coats of Barrettine Premier Universal Preservative is recommended prior to using this product
  5. Allow the wood preservative a minimum of 48 hours to dry before applying Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment

Always do a small test area to confirm performance and compatibility before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times. Stir thoroughly prior to and during application to ensure a consistent finish.

  1. Decant in to a paint kettle or other suitable container
  2. Apply liberally, working the oil into the surface of the wood and brushing in the direction of the wood grain
  3. For best results apply to all external sides of log cabins, sheds and decking prior to construction
  4. Remove any excess surface oil to avoid extended drying times
  5. Normally, one coat applied liberally with a wide bristle brush is sufficient
  6. Should you apply a further second coat, it may be applied after 12-24 hours, depending on the type of wood
  7. Some hard / oily exotic hard woods such as Iroko, Teak, Idigbo and Cedar may only absorb 1 thin coat
  8. If desired, Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment may be applied by synthetic roller or sprayer, however you should always back brush to ensure even coverage
  9. For decking boards leave 24-48 hours before subjecting to heavy foot traffic

Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment can be easily maintained with an application of a thin maintenance coat as and when required, usually every couple of years or as a yearly maintenance program, by simply following the preparation and application sections above.

Pleased with Product finish and ease of use by D.Hanney

I chose Barretine's Log cabin and decking treatment after looking at similar products, It was Oil based making it perfect for repelling the rain, it is very thin and easy to apply and I still have 50% left for future treatments, it also gives off little in the way of smell apart from a light odour of linseed oil. Great product all round..Recommended!!!

Goes on extremely easily and goes a long way too by Daniel Brace

goes on extremely easily and goes a long way too. I bought 10 litres of barretine wood preserver as an undercoat nd 10 litres of barrettine log cabin treatment and after two coats of each ive still got 5 litres of log cabin treatment left for a top up coat in a couple of years. Its not cheap but equally you'd be stupid to fork out thousands on a log cabin then cover it with cheap coating to save £30!!!

Great Product, does everything it says it does by Jason Race

I've recently used this product on my new log cabin, and it certainly looks like it is doing the job. I had put down to layers of woodpreserayiver prior to this coat going on. You can see the difference in the way the water beads on the surface and i have high confidence that it will do the job as specified

Easy to apply but not great for the environment by Mrs Mcderment

This applied really easily without too many drips and the coverage was good. It was only after receiving it and reading the detail on the tin however that I realised that it is pretty caustic and has quite an environmental impact - this was reflected in the price but I probably wouldn't buy it again for this reason.

A note from us...

It is unfortunate that in this industry there are still some products that have an impact on the environment. However regulations are being bought in all the time to help to improve the impact that finishing products have on the environment and how they are produced, as well as the chemicals that are in them.

Hear at Wood finishes Direct we are proud to have played a part in the changes that have been made over the years whilst working hard to maintain the quality of the products. And while there is still a long way to go in the industry we hope to help encourage manufacturers to continue to improve their products.

If you have any question or there is anything further that I can help with please do let me know.

Kind regards Sam.
