Barrettine's Log Cabin Treatment has been formulated especially for those requiring extra protection on any exterior wood requiring more than just a wood preservative.
This bespoke oil contains resins to aid with durability and can be used on both pressure treated and pre-treated wood.
Can be applied over Barrettine Premier Wood Preservative for additional protection against mould, algae and insect attack.
|No. of coats||2-3|
|Coverage||Up to 8m² per litre|
|Drying time||48 hrs|
Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment offers a high level of protection for all exterior wood including, log cabins, summer houses, sheds, fences, decking and more. This oil based product penetrates into the surface of the wood so will not crack, peel or flake. It is water repellent and helps prevent timber from cracking and splitting.
A coat of Barrettine Wood Preservative is recommended prior to using this product. Allow the wood preservative 5 days to dry before applying Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment. Ensure surfaces to be treated are clean and free from algae and mildew.
Ensure that the contents of the tin are stirred thoroughly prior to and during application.
Apply liberally working the oil into the surface of the wood. Remove any excess surface oil to avoid extended drying times. Some hard/oily woods such as iroko, teak, idigbo and cedar will only allow 1 or 2 thin coats of this product to be absorbed. This product works best when the wood has been sanded with a 150 grit (or close) sandpaper. If the wood is too smooth the oil cannot soak in to the wood so easily.
This product will normally dry within 12 to 24 hours depending on application, temperature and wood being worked on. Damp or humid conditions will also have an effect on the drying time.
Apply a fresh coat or 2 of Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment as part of a yearly maintenance program to offer exterior wood the best protection.
Remove as much of the product as possible from brushes and other applicators prior to cleaning with white spirit. Clean any spills with white spirit before they dry.
Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from sources of heat, sparks and open flame. Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs. Store away from oxidising materials, acids and damp conditions.
Does what it says on the tin... All you can ask for!
Good product can be easily sprayed through a spray gun with appropriate mask, works very well you can see the water just repels of cabin, only downside is price I needed two tins for a 6m x 4m log cabin but quality none the less
2nd time with this product. Does everything it should and does it well.
very good product does what it says
I sprayed 10lts of Barrettine log cabin treatment on my log cabin during and after building it. I feel quite confident that it's protected for the winter and can then decide whether to respray or paint next year.
I've recently used this product on my new log cabin, and it certainly looks like it is doing the job. I had put down to layers of woodpreserayiver prior to this coat going on. You can see the difference in the way the water beads on the surface and i have high confidence that it will do the job as specified
Applied this log cabin treatment over Barrettine wood preserver treatment and now I have a log cabin with a beautiful finish highly recommend this product
So far doing a good job
This applied really easily without too many drips and the coverage was good. It was only after receiving it and reading the detail on the tin however that I realised that it is pretty caustic and has quite an environmental impact - this was reflected in the price but I probably wouldn't buy it again for this reason.
It is unfortunate that in this industry there are still some products that have an impact on the environment. However regulations are being bought in all the time to help to improve the impact that finishing products have on the environment and how they are produced, as well as the chemicals that are in them.
Hear at Wood finishes Direct we are proud to have played a part in the changes that have been made over the years whilst working hard to maintain the quality of the products. And while there is still a long way to go in the industry we hope to help encourage manufacturers to continue to improve their products.
If you have any question or there is anything further that I can help with please do let me know.
Kind regards Sam.
Good product and water was immediately stopped from entering the treated area.
Now November building our log cabin raining as we build, the wood treatment seems to be doing its job rain rolling off in beads,I would use Barrettine again.
I done some research and all the top people talked about this ..... They're right !! Its really great, superb coverage very pleasing to the eye and you know your protected will be ordering more soon
This product is good when used as directed by Barrettine. It's not a cheap water based product - hence brushes have to be washed in White Spirit. Only one coat is required - you can see it working after rainfall as the rain falls easily off the wood. Any rain left behind stands in drops on the wood, (same as a well polished car).
I used this on my new, pressure treated, planed timber fence. It was very quick and easy to apply and I like the finish, as it seems to bring out the warmth of the wood. I've only just used it, so have yet to see how it fairs over winter, but I will be using it again
Excellent product and good fast delivery
Easy to get on, but darkened my wood up a lot (made it look dirty), even though this was meant to be clear. Confident it will keep the rain off though.
Thank you for the feedback, nearly all clear oils and varnishes will darken the wood very slightly to give what we call the 'wet look' . You can get an idea of how much it will darken by wiping a damp ( not wet ) cloth over the surface of the wood. So hard these days to find such a quality product......I've had water based products, guaranteed 5 years, fail within the first year ..... This product goes on well and sucks into the timber so well and has given a first class finish .... Not much more to say .... You of course need to precede this product with a preservative of some description, look towards one of its sister products and you won't go wrong .....
