Cuprinol Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver is a coloured wood preservative with an advanced formulation, designed to colour, preserve and protect all types of garden wood for up to 5 years.

Looking for a clear, water based wood preservative? See our full range of wood preservatives.

Looking for a solvent based wood preserver for sheds and fences? Cuprinol Shed and Fence Protector is a solvent-based exterior, coloured wood preserver for rough sawn and smooth garden timbers, such as cladding, fencing, sheds, greenhouses and summerhouses.

Ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dirt, debris and other surface contaminates.

  • If necessary, brush surfaces with a stiff brush or broom before treating to remove any loose surface matter
  • Areas affected by mould, algae or fungi should first be treated with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner or fungicidal wash prior to application
  • Existing surface coatings such as paint or varnish must be fully removed back to bare wood before using Cuprinol Wood Preserver

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir contents of tin thoroughly before and during application to ensure a consistent finish.

  1. Apply a minimum of two even brush coats to give a uniform finish.
  2. Apply evenly, avoiding splashing of surrounding plants, brickwork, glass, PVCu etc. Any splashing should be cleaned up immediately (whilst still wet) with water and household detergent. Excessive spillage on plants should be rinsed off immediately before drying
  3. Allow the previous coat to soak in before applying the next. Usually dries in 2-6 hours under normal weather conditions. Do not apply if rain is likely before the product has fully dried
  4. Where a strong colour change is desired, more coats may be required. If using more than 1 tin it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container or finish in a corner before starting a new tin
  5. Recoat within 2-3 days of previous coat. if a longer period elapses try a test area to ensure product is not repelled

If being used as a stand alone treatment and not being over-coated, this product can be easily maintained. To maintain the surface finish and its protective properties, simply apply a fresh coat of Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver following the Preparation and Application instructions as and when required.

Excellent cover and finish to the wood cladding on my house by Joanne Wardale

I have used Cuprinol Country Oak for years as it is the perfect colour for the wood finish at the top of my house. There used to be a solvent based product but now it is water based with a wax finish. I was dubious at first but did not want to change the colour or product due to its long lasting finish. I have recently used the new water based waxed finish and am extremely pleased with it. Equally good finish, and easier to clean the brush by just rinsing in a bucket of water. On to the fence now!

A really good preservative by Ian Hammond

I have used this before and it is an excellent preservative which keeps its rich colour

It does what it says and should last years by Howard Rigby

It coats well and being water based dries quickly. It say 2 to 3 coats but if the wood has been coated before then I'd recomment 2 coats max with both in the same day if possible to reduce the "wax" effect. I have used the previous version and although this looks a different colour in the tin it dries to the same colour.
