Cuprinol Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver is a coloured wood preservative with an advanced formulation, designed to colour, preserve and protect all types of garden wood for up to 5 years.

Looking for a clear, water based wood preservative? Try Cuprinol 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment (WB).

Looking for a solvent based wood preserver for sheds and fences? Cuprinol Shed and Fence Protector is a solvent-based exterior, coloured wood preserver for rough sawn and smooth garden timbers, such as cladding, fencing, sheds, greenhouses and summerhouses.

Ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dirt, debris and other surface contaminates.

  • If necessary, brush surfaces with a stiff brush or broom before treating to remove any loose surface matter
  • Areas affected by mould, algae or fungi should first be treated with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner or fungicidal wash prior to application
  • Existing surface coatings such as paint or varnish must be fully removed back to bare wood before using Cuprinol Wood Preserver

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir contents of tin thoroughly before and during application to ensure a consistent finish.

  1. Apply a minimum of two even brush coats to give a uniform finish.
  2. Apply evenly, avoiding splashing of surrounding plants, brickwork, glass, PVCu etc. Any splashing should be cleaned up immediately (whilst still wet) with water and household detergent. Excessive spillage on plants should be rinsed off immediately before drying
  3. Allow the previous coat to soak in before applying the next. Usually dries in 2-6 hours under normal weather conditions. Do not apply if rain is likely before the product has fully dried
  4. Where a strong colour change is desired, more coats may be required. If using more than 1 tin it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container or finish in a corner before starting a new tin
  5. Recoat within 2-3 days of previous coat. if a longer period elapses try a test area to ensure product is not repelled

If being used as a stand alone treatment and not being over-coated, this product can be easily maintained. To maintain the surface finish and its protective properties, simply apply a fresh coat of Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver following the Preparation and Application instructions as and when required.

Covers well by Mark Bowhay

Good penetration although this results in some splatter and mess. Seems superior to most cheaper fence products. Colour is a little dark. In visible areas I have used as a preservative undercoat and overpainted with Forest Green in other product ranges but under trees the darker spruce green 'disappears' and works well. Only concern is high cost charged by Cuprinol.

Looks excellent by Brian Hardy

Good coverage, easy to apply (by brush), looks excellent. Be aware that the wax component means that the second appliccation has to be applied soon after the first.

Good product by Michael Brown

Went on well and one coat wood have been sufficient for my new shed. However decided to do two coats and there is still enough left in the tin to do another one or two coats on my 12' x 7' work shed when it needs. Nearly bought two tins by mistake so glad I didn't.

Superb preserver by Mike

Have been using this preserver on all my fences and sheds for some years and wouldn't change. Very easy to apply, goes a long way and is a great colour.

Paint is very thin so you need to be careful to load brush properly to avoid dripping. I applied second coat when the first coat was still slightly tacky for a perfect finish. I also used this paint on my shed two years ago and it still looks like it has just been painted. Highly recommended, probably the best product of its type on the market.

Easy to use, looks great by Christina Welch

I was very pleased with Cuprinol's Ultimate Wood Preserver as it was easy to paint onto our shed and dried to a good overall colour without streaks or blotching. It was absorbed and dried quickly and has made our old shed look like a new one - and that was just one coat! The Spruce Green colour looks very natural amongst the trees and shrubs, time will tell how long it will last but at the moment it is looking pretty good. Very pleased with this product.

Excellent cover and finish to the wood cladding on my house by Joanne Wardale

I have used Cuprinol Country Oak for years as it is the perfect colour for the wood finish at the top of my house. There used to be a solvent based product but now it is water based with a wax finish. I was dubious at first but did not want to change the colour or product due to its long lasting finish. I have recently used the new water based waxed finish and am extremely pleased with it. Equally good finish, and easier to clean the brush by just rinsing in a bucket of water. On to the fence now!

It does what it says and should last years by Howard Rigby

It coats well and being water based dries quickly. It say 2 to 3 coats but if the wood has been coated before then I'd recomment 2 coats max with both in the same day if possible to reduce the "wax" effect. I have used the previous version and although this looks a different colour in the tin it dries to the same colour.
