For decorative plaster coving, cornicing and ceiling roses, carved or shaped wood, decorative metal fireplaces and other surfaces with a decorative design, that has been in-filled with paint, consider PeelAway 1 Paint Remover and PeelAway 7 Paint Remover. Also available in a handy PeelAway 1 and 7 Sample Twin Pack.

Areas to be stripped should be cleaned to remove any surface dirt and debris that may restrict contact with Paint Panther Paint and Varnish Remover. Ensure that any surfaces not intended to be stripped are covered and protected from this product.

Paint Panther gel contains corrosive substances and should only be used in a well ventilated area with protective clothing such as gloves, safety glasses or goggles.

Always do a test area to assess performance and compatibility before starting any project. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Using a suitable brush, paint a thick coat of Barrettine Paint Panther onto about a square meter at a time
  2. Wait between 5 and 10 minutes before removing the gel
  3. Remove the wood stripping gel and stripped product with a scraper (recommended) or steel wool (wearing protective gloves)
  4. Light scoring of the coated surface may enhance performance, however do not sand if any coats contain lead
  5. When finished, follow with a wash of white spirit

If required, the process can be repeated again for stubborn areas or where there are many layers of paint.

Saved a lot of sanding. Has trouble with old paint but a few applications and works.

Does what it says on the tin by Hilary Carmichael

Using this product was easy as you painted it on with a brush and because it was gel, it did not run off when doing upright legs etc. Good stuff, highly recommend .

Very good stripper, with a caveat by Stefano Valenti

Very good and effective stripper, as long as you have to remove one coat of paint. If you have multiple coats, you must apply the product again and again until you reach the desired result. It is also a bit messy to deal with, as after the application the paint softens and becomes very sticky; when you remove it, it falls to the ground and it is very likely to stick to your shoes!

Worked well, though 3 applications needed to remove thick varnish

Great stripper for old varnish & wax by Graham Alexander

A good product, had to strip and scrape a very old pub floor with wax and PU buildup to 5mm in places was like scraping against a rugby scrum... A few surgical cuts and 30 mins with the stripper and was able to lift from old floor easily prior to sanding thus saving a hundred year old floor! Better yet its a relitivly safe product my mate sliped and skidded through a section of the stripper on the floor a quick removal of his shirt and a hose down (more for my entertainment) with cold water and he was fine no ill effects!

Good value for amount, quick dispatch, well packed. Worked well on antique chair which had been painted with an unidentifiable product.

Better than sanding by Martin Moran

Excellent product. Removed 4 layers of ronseal diamond hard varnish from our hardwood hall floor. Tool two applications, perfect, the coverage rates are accurate - far easier and less mess than hiring a sander (if you have a level floor - if not you'll have to sand)

Excellent product - does exactly what it says it does by Joanne Corless

I bought this to try and help with our mammoth hallway project. It works a treat. However because of the amount of paintwork I've got to strip back I'm using in combination with a paint gun. I remove the 10 layers or so of paint and allow the work surface to cool. I then paint the Barrentine Paint Panther and Varnish Remover over the surface and leave to do it's thing. It removes the vile 1930's varnish like a dream and a quick wipe over with white spirit and the job is done. I'm about to order some more to finish the job. If I was working on a smaller project or something with fiddly bits I'd just use this to get the paint off the woodwork.

Brilliant, removed layers of paint and varnish! by Andrew Somerville

Was great, rather pongy but was not runny, which meant; you didn't get it all over your hands and it stayed on the area you applied it to.
